Anil Jain explained How to Arrest Refrigerant Gas Leaks in a Cylinder

Anil Jain, one of the successful manufacturers of refrigerants, says the ways to arrest refrigerant gas leaks in a cylinder. Do not miss to read this informative article and be a part of threat to the atmosphere.

Everyone is aware of the fact that refrigerants are nothing but substances capable of converting easily from liquid to gaseous state. Hence, their application has increased day-by-day in several domains, despite the high risk factors associated with their usage. Usually, refrigerants are stored in disposable cylinders for application in air conditioners and refrigerators. Such kind of cylinders must be handled with care and it is mandatory to be aware of the hazards occurring due to leakage of refrigerant gases. Anil Jain, Refex Industries Limited CEO guides us with few effective ways to prevent such kind of accidents.

Anil Jain ‘Arrest of Gas Leaks’ in Cylinders – Simple and Effective Methods

Step 1 – Locate the Leak
The best and most definite way to identify exactly where the refrigerant leak has occurred is to use a gas leak detector. This type of detector will specifically detect the leak from a refrigerant coolant. You can easily locate the exact leak area if you monitor the cylinder by a detector. The detector alerts the user by providing audio-visual signal. In addition, you can apply soap oil on the spot to ascertain the leak. Once the leak spot is identified, you must rectify it immediately.

Step 2 – Remove the Refrigerant
Before beginning to repair the unit, you need to remove the entire refrigerant from the cylinder. To do this, you must connect a refrigerant pump to the cylinder and empty the refrigerant coolant completely. Pump usage and connections may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Hence, be certain to read the manufacturer’s instruction manual thoroughly before using the pump. Finally, you must condense the leftover vapour and make it danger-free.

Step 3 – Fix the Leak
If the leak is found in the valve, firstly you must clean the valve thoroughly and perform hydro testing. Once done, make sure it is properly attached to the cylinder. After rectifying the value, retest the cylinder with a gas detector. If you still sense the leakage, you must replace the valve for sure, that is, removing the existing valve and attaching a new one in its place.

Anil Jain Gases Leak – Precautionary Actions

  • Please go through the product label and safety data sheet.
  • Make sure there is enough ventilation.
  • Do not expose refrigerant cylinders to sparks, flames or hot objects.
  • While handling refrigerants, it is good to wear impervious gloves, safety glasses and other protective device.
  • In case of contact with eyes or skin, wash immediately with water and seek medical attention.
  • If any chemical spills on the cylinder, immediately clear the surrounding.
  • Never hit or drop the cylinder with any other object.
  • Do not lift the cylinder holding the valve.
  • Never leave an empty cylinder open because moisture in the atmosphere may enter.
  • Never apply direct flame or live steam to the cylinder.
  • Keep kids away from the usage area.
